Black Birders Walk with Nature Man Mike

June 5, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am

Black Birders Week was started in response to the 2020 incident in Central Park in which birding enthusiast Christian Cooper, a Black man, was the subject of a specious call to police by a white woman walking her dog. Following the public outcry, Mr. Cooper was offered his own TV show by National Geographic, whereas his accuser was dismissed from her job and charged with filing a false police report.

This spring, bird walks hosted by FPC and friends have drawn diverse crowds of 40-50 people gathering to enjoy nature together. We are looking forward to our first, and to our knowledge, Boston’s first, Black Birders Week event. Please join in!

Bring binoculars if you have them. We’ll have a few borrowed binoculars to share thanks to Mass Audubon’s Boston Nature Center.
