Frederick Law Olmsted: Comment on Commerce

During his travels, Mr. Olmsted was often struck by how the demands of commerce crowded OUT anything of lasting value – a venerable Olmstedian theme.

. Westgate Hotel designed by Arthur Vinal. The Westgate is prototypically Boston in its 1890s architectural styling. Clad with yellow brick with integrated carved stone and ornamentation, with bowed copper bays. It WAS a fitting gateway into Kenmore Square and an example of Victorian Boston architecture (Demolished 2020)
